Like i sayed before is mandriva linux One of the Major Distributions. There several Majors which are in development.
Debian
Ubuntu
Suse
Gentoo
RedHat
Xandros
Fedora
and Mandriva.
I used for a pretty long time now Arch Linux. I was quite happy with it because it was fast and simple.Unfortunatly it was Too Up to Date. So i experienced a lot of Unstable Suprises. So i gave Mandriva a try my expectations was rather Low. I needed some stable things. Ubuntu is unfortunatly out of my Choice because the new Release is not that what i really want. Its unstable and i had several freezes. It is also a Ramhog.
So i gave Mandriva a shot. First download the ISO from www.mandriva.com (asian users want to download the ASIAN version which contains asian languages). Then burned it to a CD-RW and run it as a Live CD.
I had some trouble getting X to work so i had to edit the Xorg.conf. That was not nice and gave me a pretty bad first Impression. Since i dont judge a book from its cover. I started KDE and what i found was a Very nice and polished Distribution.
The Look and feel is great. I shortly after this played with the Mandriva Controle Center and i found it to be quite a Timesaver for timeconsuming system administration.
Very impressed i started the installer which is in today times OK. Pretty userfriendly. After the install i activated Compiz fusion without a problem.
All in All i can say that mandriva was a good choice and if there dont come some Serious Trouble i think i will keep it for a longer time.
And of course if u want to try out linux its a great choice.
