2. Plug the device. Check the log in /var/log/messages, and in the last line there should be:
[11834.720067 ] dvb-usb: Leadtek Winfast DTV Dongle (STK7700P based) successfully initialized and connected.3. Install Kaffeine. Kaffeine uses the xine engine to play video.
4. Go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. Install all the video decoder plug-ins for xine (libxine*). It may ask you for including the zlib package, do it!
Do not manually compile and install the xine lib packages...... Some decoders have already been installed with Kaffeine. When you 'make install' the xine lib packages, the compiled files are put into a different place. Kaffeine would find two copies of plug-ins -_-b and report an error
5. Open Kaffeine and search for channels. It is much faster than the windows software provided by winfast!
6. If Kaffeine cannot play and displays an error for xvid decoder, go back to Synaptic to make sure you installed the correct plug-ins
BTW: Step 3-6 should also work for other Digital TV devices.
