Fedora 7--Music Player, Kaffeine or Amarok?

发布时间:2007-11-03 02:15:10来源:红联作者:pacfaket
It is said Kaffeine and Amarok are the best music players under Fedora, I could not wait to install them and try it out. Then I got somewhat kind of disappointed, because it can't play MP3 files, which are the most widely formatted music styles.

Kaffeine
It is known there was sort of bug issue in Kaffeine player with the XIM. The Kaffeine is not able to start if you are using any kind input method, scim or skim. If turn the XIM off, it's fine, the Kaffeine starts, however still there is no way it plays MP3, but indeed plays ogg, cd, etc.

Another issue is, Kaffeine is not displaying Chinese tag information.

Amarok--Fast forward your music

Amarok almost does the same as Kaffeine -- can't play MP3, can't display Chinese tag information, however it does a little bit better that it starts no matter the system is running XIM or not. For me the XIM is critical, I think every Chinese needs it like we have to pee. So I decided to draw more attention on Amarok but drop struggling in Kaffeine.

In the Configure dialogue of Amarok, there is Configure Engine tab where one can configure the Sound System. Amarok actually uses other Engine as its own to play music, That is the point. The Default xine Engine for Amarok has no support for MP3 files, that's why Amarok doesn't play MP3. But, Helix Engine, as an option in the Sound System drop-down list is a chance. It includes the MP3 decoding support as long as you install RealPlayer, and then locate where the RealPlayer core, plugins, codecs are, properly, Amarok plays MP3!
